Event accompanying World Youth Day - Cracow 2016
Reinhold Niebuhr
- That’s why, Dear Friend, we are challenging you:
What questions are you coming with to Cracow?
What are you searching for?
The idea for this event grew out of
the experience of the movement Communion and Liberation (CL).
The movement was initiated by Fr. Luigi Giussani in Italy in 1954.
Today the movement is present in over 70 countries all over the world.
Basic aspects of the common human experience are discussed in Fr. Giussani’s book The Religious Sense.
These aspects are important for every human being no matter who the person is. It is this publication that has directly inspired the content of the happening:
"Paradoxically, in The Religious Sense little is said about God and much is said about human beings. Much is said about our 'whys', much about our ultimate needs (…)
It is not a book (...) only for Christians or believers. It is (...) for all human beings who take their humanity seriously. (...)
The drama of the world today is the result not only of the absence of God but also and above all of the absence of humankind, of the loss (...) of human destiny and identity."
/taken from the introduction by Card. J. M. Bergoglio to The Religious Sense/
The happening is an endeavour to reach the criteria of the heart that reside inside everyone and are the fundamental element of human nature. These criteria allow for the personal verification of every proposition, including that of the Church.
We are inviting you from the 20th to 29th July, 2016 at the following times:
Monday - Friday 08.30 - 16.00
Saturday - Sunday 10.00 - 18.00
Place: Pałac Sztuki, Plac Szczepański 4, Kraków
(The Art Palace, 4 Szczepanski Sq. , Cracow, Poland)
The happening will be available in the following languages:
English, French, Spanish, German, Polish, Russian and Italian.
Free entrance. Duration: approx. 30 minutes.
Come and see!
With the help of the Polish CL (Communion and Liberation) youth, we have identified 5 areas that are essential in the life of young people. The areas will be expressed symbolically (through various objects, props, pictures, words, sounds...) within the space of the happening. The role of the exhibit space is to provoke the viewer to ask oneself authentic, fundamental and personal questions. The areas of life are:
• family / home
• study / work / internships / volunteering
• free time / interests / hobbies
• friendship / love
• self-awareness / faith / spirituality / vocation
• During the happening, the guests are accompanied by our guides, who introduce the event, and then they accompany the young people on their way through each room until the climax where each participant will individually write questions.
• The journey through the proposed areas of life is a place of personal confrontation with the proposed content, which allows one to reach deeply into one’s own experience and treat it seriously.
• Those who want will have time for get-togethers, conversations, questions, and sharing experiences.
• After the WYD, all the questions will be collected in The Book of Questions and handed directly to Pope Francis.
